DC Wine Week spoiled their VIP guests Saturday night (Oct. 12) with a fantastic wine tasting and charcuterie menu at the Veritas Wine Bar. Attendees worked their way through seven wines, starting with sparkling whites, then making their way down through the reds, and finishing off with a sparkling white apéritif. While attendees sampled their wines, beautiful plates of cured meats and cheeses were offered. Each pairing was prepared by wine connoisseur and general manager Jamie Smith. Samples were numbered and labeled so guests knew which food offering paired best with the wine they were currently tasting. It was a simple and well organized tasting. Perfect for a newb taster such as myself.
Wines and food pairings included:
Sparkling NV Rossignol de Moragas Cava Brut – A well balanced, easy to drink with apple and pear aromas from Spain. Paired with Prosciutto.
Sparkling NV Cricova Brut – A semisweet wine with a delicate and harmonious taste from Moldova. Paired with Wild Boar Salami.
Slow Down Wines “Broken Dreams” Chardonnay 2012 – A beautiful California wine with notes of citrus and tropical fruit. Paired with Ptit Basque
Voignier Reserve 2012 – A wine from our very own Barboursville, VA with notes of pear, passion fruit, and hints of citrus. Paired with Marco Polo Cheese.
Laetitia Pinot Noir 2012 – An elegant red wine from California’s Arroyo Grande Valley that’s easy to drink. Paired with Bresaola Morchetta.
Ladrón de Guevara Barón Tempranillo 2012 – A classy ruby red Spanish wine with aromas of fruit and hints of fine oak. Paired with Duck Rillettes.
Sparkling Aecovi “Penelope” – A lightly sweet apéritif, with fruity floral aromas. Paired with Buttermilk Blue Cheese.
